A. Povedan Education, a two-fold Approach 

  • Philosophy: Pedro Poveda’s pedagogical underpinnings on Knowledge and Virtue and  his vision to uphold human dignity for social transformation.  
  • Methodology: Personalized Education Pedagogy 

It values, emphasizes and highlights:

    1. The holistic formation grounded on the school’s Core Values: Christ-centeredness, Excellence, and Commitment
    2. The principles in the teaching-learning process: creativity, communication and diversity 
    3. The optimal well-being of the students: appreciating the value of each person; sense of belonging – security – purpose; and joy in learning.

B. School Pedagogy – Personalized Education Program (PEP): 

  1. Individual Work (IW)
    IW is a research-designed age-appropriate work model, taught at every level and ladderized for progressive advancement. At the start of every session (equivalent to three to four weeks), subject teachers release requirements designed as research work for students to explore and work on within the given time frame.
  1. Normalization
    Normalization is a process that allows students to balance the use of their different faculties. They are given the opportunity to pause, decompress, step back, and reflect on what was accomplished and learned after a learning activity.
  1. Encounter
    The session enables and boosts student participation/ interaction: knowledge exchanged, from what has been researched and learned during IW, and experiences shared.

C. Special Curricular Programs: 

  1. LEAP: Learning Equivalence and Alternatives Program
    The LEAP equips Grade school students with skills to go beyond their limits by thinking-out-of-box during fun and inspiring activities.  The following programs are designed geared towards enriching student’s academic life:

    • Keystone Program: This provides richer and varied educational experiences during IW, having greater depth and breadth generally provided in class.
    • Springboard Program: This caters to students who may not be performing at par with their capability.
    • Sprint Program. This program gears towards differentiation through content, process, product, and learning environment or based on interest and ability.
  2. Math Enrichment
    The Math Enrichment Program provides greater opportunity for mathematically inclined students to maximize their potential and abilities in the subject.
  3. Advanced Placement (AP)
    The Advanced Placement program offers university level courses to high school students to prepare them for cognitive skills and discipline that are essential in college. The curriculum of this program is under the auspices of the College Board that regulated Advanced Placement curriculum in the United States.Advanced Placement courses, namely English Literature and Composition, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, 2D Art and Design, Statistics, and Calculus AB, are offered by the school to address the needs of students who plan to pursue their college degrees outside the Philippines. All Advanced Placement courses require students to stay after regular class hours.
  4. La Lengua y Cultura Española
    Saint Pedro Poveda College is one with the Department of Education’s aim to internationalize Filipino students and to make them more globally competitive. As by tradition, the school continues to provide students with knowledge in Spanish culture and skills in language. Learning a third language, as an additional skill, is achieved through the school’s Spanish Program given to Grades 3 – 12.

The school partners with Instituto Cervantes, a non-profit organization founded by the Spanish government, – responsible for promoting the study and teaching of Spanish language and culture. High School students attend Spanish classes under the supervision of teachers from Instituto Cervantes de Manila.  All Grade 12 students must take the examination leading to the Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language or DELE) which is acknowledged by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sports of Spain

The Regular Program consists of  4-day in-person classes and 1 Alternative Learning Day (ALD). This is offered to Pre-Kinder to Grade 12 students. Pre-Kinder to Kinder 2 Regular Program is offered to co-ed students while Grades 1 to 12 Regular Program is offered exclusively for female students.

Students will attend in-person classes four (4) times a week and an alternative learning day (ALD). During alternative learning days, students work on their IW, group tasks or they may also engage in special academic programs and other non-academic activities. Consultation sessions may also be held during this day.

Class size for Grades 1 to 12: maximum of 35 students

Saint Pedro Poveda College requires all its high school students to complete a carefully designed curriculum that is aligned with the Department of Educations K to 12 program.  The school offers the Academic Track for Senior High School with four strands to choose from: ABM, GAS, HUMSS, and STEM. All subject areas are anchored on the Poveda philosophy of Personalized Education. In line with the school’s commitment to the total formation of each person, Christian Life Education and Spanish are also required.

Except for Grade 12 students who may augment the curriculum by choosing from a number of elective courses/Poveda Lecture Series, all students must follow the standard Poveda high school curriculum. There are also advanced placement programs offered that serve as additional classes to the POVEDA curriculum.

A. Well-Being Support

The Guidance and Testing Center (GTC) , Student Well-being Office (SWO), and the Health and Wellness Center (HWC) are collaborating offices that help promote wellness for students through the GuSH Program. GuSH has unique initiatives (anchored on the individual offices mentioned) to provide for the holistic development of students and create a safe environment conducive for learning. It is responsive in nature as it is anchored on prevention, detection and intervention.

For detection and intervention, the Class Adviser, Guidance Counselor, Vice Principal, School Physician, Student Well-being Coordinator, and Guidance Supervisor participate in discussions about the concerns and needs of individual students and work towards implementing the planned interventions. 

Relationship-building and leadership activities are integrated into the daily classroom routines across all levels and subject areas. This is to strengthen the school’s family-life atmosphere, making a more safe and welcoming school life for our students.

    Student-led Organizations (for SHS only) provide opportunities for students to develop leadership and organizational skills through involvement in community engagement and in-house activities.

The school establishes international partnerships that will provide opportunities for students to engage in international, intercultural and global interactions/collaborations.

Exposure and Exchanges with Partner Schools 

Saint Pedro Poveda College sustains and expands collaboration and partnership with partner schools (local and international including Teresian Association (TA) schools abroad to support effective and efficient delivery of various programs to optimize students’ holistic formation. 

Cultural Programs (trips abroad) 

Along with exposure and exchanges with partner schools, selected students are sent internationally to enrich, supplement and apply students’ knowledge of culture and history and to interact with people of other cultures in a supervised setting. 

POVEDA Model United Nations (POVEDA-MUN)

POVEDA Model United Nations is a club for high school students where they simulate United Nations’ resolution making to develop their creativity, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. They are also given the opportunity to build on their interest in International Relations and Diplomacy as they engage in meaningful conversations towards contemporary world issues with students from other schools (local and international). 

CERTIFICATION: International Spanish Academy

The education advisor of the Spanish embassy has started collaborating with the school to be certified as the first in the Philippines to be an International Spanish Academy (ISA).
