Office Of The President

Ms. Rosalinda Y. Basas

President

Ms. ROSALINDA Y. BASAS, is the College President of Saint Pedro Poveda College, beginning School Year 2022-23.

Descriptions that aptly summarize the current President are: servant-leader, effective educator/administrator, advocate of culture, and ‘star-and yet-slave.’  These traits emanate from her vocation as a member of the Teresian Association, to which she has committed her life since she was 16 years old. She has a natural disposition to want to serve, to lead and inspire others to do the same. As a tagapaglingkod,’ she too is a good follower and diligently performs duties as a ‘rank and file.’ She tirelessly promotes practices that enrich lives of individuals, thus developing better organizations, eventually creating a more just and caring world. Her experiences in the fields of education and culture are not just in the Philippines, but in several countries as well: Europe, USA, Canada and other Asian countries, and even in Africa.

‘Ms. B,’ as she is fondly called, is an academic leader who can be tritely described as one who rose from the ranks: from a classroom teacher in Basic Education, to a College Instructor, a Subject Area Coordinator and Education Supervisor, a High School Principal, an Assistant Dean, and a College President for two non – consecutive terms. As an academic leader, and one who is a natural in this, she perfectly fits in this academic institution whose mission and vision is to empower others for social transformation through transformative education.

She is active in the affairs of the Catholic Church having been a two-time Board Secretary of the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas (2016-2019 ) and its Executive  Vice President in ( 2020-2021). Lately, she was one of the representatives of the Archdiocese of Manila in the National Synodal Consultation of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, held in Tagaytay City in (July 2022).

Ms. Basas is likewise the current President of Pedro Poveda Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization created by the Teresian Association. Its main objective is to financially assist the education and formation of diocesan priests and seminarians in the Philippines.

In the private sector, she is the Executive Director of Empowering Brilliant Minds Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization that aims to assist the public elementary schools by providing school buildings, educational materials and training of teachers to alleviate the lives of children through better education.

For the record, whatever role Ms. Basas takes, she performs so well that one cannot help but notice the good results. Thus, in a way, she ‘shines like a star.’ She has assumed varied roles both in the academe and in the area of culture, having worked with the Philippines’ National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) for several years as its Administrative and Logistics Officer and coordinated several  ASEAN projects.

In the Teresian Association that she serves passionately, Ms. B has generously accepted several assignments and designations like Sector Director of the Teresian Association in the Philippines from 1999-2005; General Council Member from 2006-2012 and Officer of the Board of the Institucion Teresiana de Educacion y Cultura, Inc. (ITEC) and the Teresian Association International, Inc. (TAII).

Born in Roxas City in the province of Capiz, she had her Basic Education in the public school and her College Education at the University of San Agustin, Iloilo. She finished her Master of Arts in Educational Administration from the Philippine Normal University in Manila. It is from the same university that she completed the required academic units and passed the comprehensive examination for the Doctoral Degree in Educational Administration.
