To mark the 81st Anniversary of St. Pedro Poveda’s Martyrdom, Saint Pedro Poveda College (POVEDA) and the Our Lady of Fatima Parish Mandaluyong (OLFP), celebrated the Eucharist, which was followed by the screening of Poveda: the Movie last July 28, 2017 at the OLFP. Part of the Eucharistic celebration was the unveiling and blessing of St. Pedro Poveda’s portrait that is mounted on the wall of the Church. In attendance were administrators of POVEDA, led by its President, Dr. Azucena L. Camagan, other members of the Teresian Association, officers of the Parish Pastoral Council, Elisa Giambelluca Education Assistance Program grantees and alumni, Talaban (a component of POVEDA’s Social Action Program) volunteers led by Ms. Rosela Saribay with partner families, and regular mass-goers.
The 6:00 PM Mass was presided by Fr. Carlos “Caloy” Reyes, the Parish Priest. In his homily, Fr. Caloy shared how he got to know St. Pedro Poveda, when he was still assigned to the EDSA Shrine. During that time, he ministered to the Povedans during the celebrations of the Eucharist and also served as a confessor. Fr. Caloy’s esteem for the Povedan charism stems from its conviction that faith is compatible with knowledge and science, and that lay people can live their discipleship fully wherever and whoever they are, where they work and how they live. Another highlight of the event came after the homily. Fr. Caloy announced that the Parish Pastoral Council Hall will be officially named the Pedro Poveda Conference Room (PPC).
A simple agape meal was partaken before the film showing of the Poveda Movie in the 3rd floor of the Parish Center.
